The Artist Exchange, initiated in 2006, is one such partnership. Each year, six Kansas artists-working independently or collaboratively in their studios-meet regularly for eight to ten months to share ideas, develop formal skills, and to support each other’s artistic practices. This rigorous interaction culminates in an exhibition at the Salina Art Center, featuring the work produced during this period.   Artists participating in this year’s program include: Shin-hee Chin (McPherson), Priti Cox (Salina), Matthew Hilyard (Andover), Michael Krueger (Lawrence), Michelle Meade (Salina), and Debbie Wagner (Bennington). This exhibition is generously underwritten in part by our 2010 exhibition partner       RELATED PROGRAMS    IN DIALOGUE: A CONVERSATION WITH THE ARTISTS:  Friday, August 27, noon Artist Initiaive Director Connie Burket and Executive Director Christopher Cook visit with artists participating in this year’s Artist Exchange to discuss the exhibited works and how the program influenced their individual artistic practices.       ATIST PERFORMANCE: Sunday, September 12, 4:00 pm Artist Michelle Meade will perform a free, public puppet show in conjunction with her multi-media installation Arden’s Garden (2010).   MEMBER MIXER: Thursday, September 30, 5:30 pm Artist Exchnge artists and Christopher Cook, Executive Director, guide Art Center members on a tour and conversation about the exhibition, followed by a round of adult beverages. All programs take place at the Art Center. In this body of work, I am particularly interested in the visual
language of a literal experience. When a traumatic event takes place, it
leaves an imprint. A mental, emotional and physical scar is created. Memory
plays a significant role in the process. Through memory, themes of love, loss,
sexual abuse and illness are explored.

The photo medium helps with this literal experience. Through film I
physically re-create the event or events from my personal experiences. I
scratch, add text and material to the surface that gives each piece a
tactile quality and creates a sort of “moving” narrative that I hope tells a
story and represents the image as touched by time.

Through these visual effects I attempt to create a commentary from a
buried personal experience.
