NEW WORK ON PANEL @ CITY ARTS 2007
IN MY WORK I’M ALWAYS SEEKING THE PROFOUND. I APPLY LAYER AFTER LAYER THEN WAIT FOR INSTRUCTION. I THEN SCRAPE AWAY TO REVEAL A HISTORY WITHIN THE SURFACE.
FORMALITY IS COMBINED WITH AN INTUITIVE SENSE TOWARDS COLOR.
THIS CURRENT BODY OF WORK PRESENTS YET ANOTHER APPROACH IN HOW I SEE THE WORLD. THE ADDITION OF OTHER MATERIALS GIVE ME A BROADER VOCABULARY.
SMALL WORK 10″ X 10″ ACRYLIC / ENAMEL / MASKING TAPE / PANEL
LARGE WORK: 40″ X 40″ ACRYLIC / ENAMEL / MASKING TAPE / PANEL
In my work, I try to depict the internal struggle for truth and meaning in the context of illness and loss…it is this personal journey that dictates my approach to painting. Each layer undergoes, degradation and effacement, until gradually, a resolution and harmony are achieved. Through this process, hope, and fear are juxtaposed with the battle for survival and resolve.
I seek to produce a balance of fear and hope in my work. With much concentration on process. And respond with visceral, and intuitive strength. Where nothing can be certain, my vision is certainty and. possibly, acceptance.
This intimate world that I have created requires nothing more than a search for meaning.
